Rental Period
The Suomu Lakeside Sauna is available to rent from 1 May to 31 October. Sauna sessions can be booked for 1 to 3 hours. A cold sauna takes approximately 60 minutes to heat up in summer. Please leave the sauna clean and tidy for the next guest before you leave.
If you would like, we can heat up the sauna for you. If you are booking the sauna for the same day and would like it heated in advance, please contact our customer service. If we are not on site, and you are the first renter of the day, we will get in touch with you and add one extra hour to your booking free of charge.
About the Sauna
The sauna is rented exclusively for your own private use. The sauna benches can comfortably fit around 7 to 8 people at a time. Towels are available to rent as an optional add-on.
The sauna room has a separate stove and a water boiler for heating water. Water to the sauna must be carried from Lake Suomunjärvi. Washing takes place inside the sauna room to protect the sensitive lake ecosystem from harmful soaps and detergents.
The building also has a small changing room at the entrance, and a front porch with benches. The sauna grounds include a wood shed and a dry toilet (please remember to bring your own toilet paper). The sauna also has solar-powered lighting.
The beach is a shallow sandy beach: also suitable for younger members of the family.
Water Safety
Water in Lake Suomunjärvi, as in many other Finnish lakes, is clean and safe to swim. However, during prolonged periods of very hot weather, blue-green algae blooms may occur on some shores. In general, it is good to check the blue-green algae situation (vesi.fi) in your intended swimming spot beforehand. You can indentify blue-green algae on the spot by a simple glass test or stick test (jarviwiki.fi). If there is toxic blue-green algae present in the water, the water is not safe for swimming or washing, and it is not to be used in the sauna.
Location
The lakeside sauna is located in Patvinsuo National Park, close to Suomu Hut. It is approximately 300 metres from the sauna to the Suomu camping area, which has a cooking shelter and a campfire site. The sauna is not accessible by car. The nearest parking area is 400 metres away.
Sauna Key
The sauna has a key box. The access code will be automatically sent to the email address you provided, 3 hours before your booking begins.
Cleaning
Guests are asked to clean up after themselves before leaving. It is also good practice to leave some firewood ready for the next guest.
Please take your rubbish with you. The nearest waste sorting point is at the Suomu parking area, approximately 500 metres away.
